Hmm…It’s hard to pinpoint an exact time, but I’d say a mutual attraction at the very least was formed early on within their acquaintance, with Lan Wangji falling in love first and Wei Wuxian coming to fully reciprocate his feelings gradually across his two lifetimes. To break things down with a fine-tooth comb:

If I had to try determining a moment where his budding crush evolved into full-blown love, I think it might be here:

After the “mnn”, he added, “I am here.”
Hearing the words, something that Wei WuXian had never felt before sprouted within his heart. It was like sorrow. His chest hurt a bit, but also felt a bit warm.
He could still remember how, back in Jiangling, Lan WangJi came all the way to assist him, yet he didn’t appreciate the kindness at all. With all kinds of disputes, the two of them often parted with disapproval.
But what he hadn’t expected was that when everyone feared him and flattered him, Lan WangJi scolded him right in his face; when everyone spurned him and loathed him, Lan WangJi stood by his side.

To contextualize, Wei Wuxian experiences these feelings after waking up from being stabbed by Jin Ling and having a whole flashback to when he first revealed his demonic cultivation, when his resentment and cruelty was at their peak. He was in a situation where he was once again thrust into the unflattering limelight as the Yiling Laozu, and was painfully reminded of what began his original descent into villainy. The nephew he had been bonding with appeared to have turned against him and society is hell-bent on killing him again. 

TD;LR his life has reached a new low (again). 

That’s why it’s so meaningful that Lan Wangji is there, openly refusing to leave his side. Even with all the risks, Lan Wangji maintains his unwavering faith in Wei Wuxian and doesn’t hesitate to let him know more clearly than ever before. “I am here.”

Y’all this is a great video to study to observe the body language of a very happy but also very excited cat.  Lots of people see videos of excited cats doing things like climb rock climbing walls or get on small boats and think they are angry or scared, when they aren’t.  Here’s a good example of happy excitement and tension in a cat where the cat’s pleasure is easy to see.  The cat’s tail is lashing and its ears are going backward and forward like crazy, but the cat is not angry, it is merely off its shits because snow is just incredible.  This is a wildly playful cat which might play-attack a hand or other animal because it is so excited, but not out of anger.  Note the zoomies at the end to burn off some of that energy!

Think about it. When we humans do something fun and very physical, our bodies are often tense, at the ready, and a lot of our body language does look kind of aggressive or even scared. Cats are the same!  Animals at play or investigating new things often show some tension, but tension is not the same as anger or fear!
